DJ Musicologists began DJing in 2019 during our 1st year being married. Our first names are Derek and Kim, aka DJ D-Ball and DJ Quillow.
You might be familiar with Derek as the MC for the band The Uniphonics. He also has solo rap albums and has been pursuing a degree in music at the University of Iowa.
He has been a part of the Iowa City community since the late 90’s, but hails from Steubenville, OH.
Kim has been in Iowa for most of her life, but spent time in Louisiana for 3 years after high school. She went to CCA and then eventually went to college at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA. She is a part of the invisible disabled community and lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Music is something that brought the two together, as she was a big fan of the Uniphonics for years. After about 5 years attending shows, Derek decided to get to know her more and here we are!
They currently reside in Coralville with their 2 cats – Larry Bird and Harley Quinn. They believe in equality for all, housing for all, healthcare for all and being kind to our fellow human beings. We have fun playing music together and hope to share our love of music with others!
